The government has partnered with the organisation Vision for a Nation (VFAN) to train more than 3,000 eye care nurses based in 502 local health centres, prescribing glasses and referring those with serious eye problems to national clinics. Nurses have visited each of Rwanda’s 15,000 villages.

“We’ve found that 34% of the population in Rwanda could benefit from some form of eye care. This ranges from very minor symptoms [to] those requiring life-changing surgery.” Read more HERE.

The chancellor, along with the Brexit secretary, David Davis, and business secretary, Greg Clark, presented a united front on Friday by signing a joint letter to business leaders, seeking to reassure them that rules and regulations will remain the same during the post-Brexit transition period.

Theresa May has taken the gamble of inviting Donald Trump to make his controversial visit to Britain later this year after a meeting between the prime minister and the US president at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The move followed a 15-minute meeting between the two leaders in which the president promised the US would always “be there” for Britain, assured May “we love your country” and said that they “like each other a lot”. Read more HERE.

Afghan special forces have killed all the gunmen who opened fire on guests at the Intercontinental hotel in Kabul, leaving at least six dead, an official said. The Taliban claimed five of its militants, wearing suicide vests, carried out the assault which began on Saturday night and led to a 12-hour gun battle when Afghan forces stormed the building.

The interior ministry deputy spokesman, Nasrat Rahimi, told Agence France-Presse one foreigner was among the dead. Read more HERE
