A Boeing 737 plane carrying 104 passengers has crashed moments after taking off from Havana, Cuba, according to reports.
An airport source said there are reported casualties after The Cubana passenger jet went down and exploded into flames near Jose Marti International Airport at about 12.30pm local time, reports CNN. Photos posted online by witnesses at the airport show a plume of black smoke rising into the sky. Firefighters were on scene attempting to extinguish the blaze. Read more HERE.

British citizens were among a group of people taken hostage on Friday in the Virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a spokesman for the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) has said. It is a renowned gorilla sanctuary in the east of the African country.

The full circumstances surrounding the kidnapping are not yet clear, but a park source told the news agency AFP that a convoy was attacked and some tourists were kidnapped. Read more HERE.

“We are concerned about the flooding that has displaced so many people in Somalia, Kenya and Rwanda,” said Farhan Aziz Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN secretary general in a statement to the Guardian.
